Ekto VR is a startup out of the AlphaLabGear accelerator in Pittsburgh.

The company is working on developing motorized skates for virtual reality that keep the user centered in the room no matter where or how fast they walk. Video

While I worked there as a structures engineer intern, I was one of four full-time team members.

While working at Ekto VR,

  • Designed, analyzed, and tested key components and assemblies of the flagship product.

  • Discussed and decided on important goals and milestones for the company to achieve.

  • Traveled internationally to give on-site demos of our product to potential customers.

  • Worked around the clock to reach tight deadlines, even pulling 24h shifts.

  • Communicated and planned with other employees to ensure the various assemblies within the product worked well together.

  • Used rapid iteration to create optimal parts and assemblies for the product.

  • Designed and built force-sensing skate using load cells to create predictive models of user behavior.

  • Taught myself how to mount, operate, and test strain gauges so they can be used in future version of the flagship product.
